on-prem App Service Implementation Options

Updated: Jul 23

If you have an on-prem application in the data center and would like to connect the consumers to this application via Bumblebee platform, you deploy an on-prem App Service. In this article, we discuss the options how this App Service can be implemented.

Typically an on-prem App Service is deployed in the on-prem data center on a Service Node as virtual or hardware appliance. There are times where an on-prem App Service maybe deployed in the cloud as described in this document.

1. Bumblebee Node is deployed on-prem

In this case, an on-prem App Service is hosted on a service node as either a virtual (OVA) or hardware appliance, as shown in the diagram below.

2. Bumblebee Node deployed in provider's VPC

There are scenarios where an enterprise does not have a virtualization environment or has long wait time for getting approvals to accept a hardware appliance. In these cases, deploying a service node (Node AMI in AWS) in the cloud is an alternative option for on-prem App Service.

In this case, a customer, the provider of the application, creates a service node that takes the form factor of AWS AMI and deploys in a AWS VPC where it connects to on-prem either through an existing Direct Connect or IPSec VPN. The only requirement is that the VPC can reach the application on-prem in the data center.

Once the Bumblebee Node is deployed, it registers with the Bumblebee platform. The provider can then launch the App Service for the application.

3. Bumblebee Node hosted by Bumblebee platform

In this option, Bumblebee platforms hosts the provider's node and provides an IPSec interface to the provider's on-prem router.
